What you will be doing

  • Review project contractual documents to gain an understanding of the project requirements (time frame, budget, safety, quality, staffing, materials and equipment requirements) necessary to complete the project within the required time frame
  • Liaise and coordinate with the designer, project technical department and client in all technical aspects
  • Review and understand project design, technical reports and background information
  • Develop an execution plan that outlines construction staging and sequence, construction workplans, materials, equipment, subcontracting, and other services that are necessary to deliver the project on time and within budget 
  • Coordinate with other discipline managers to establish work the correct construction staging and sequencing
  • Provide technical assistance and recommend construction methods and equipment
  • Work with the quantity surveyor manager to Manage quantity take offs, bill of quantities, estimating and develop scope of works related to the civil, earth works and wet utilities scope.
  • Lead project activities to ensure that the project is executed in accordance with the designs, budgets and schedules; take appropriate action to minimize the impact of deviations
  • Develop and manage subcontractor meetings, etc. 
  • Monitor and oversee the efficient use of materials and equipment and the contractual performance of the project; confer with project staff to ensure the assigned duties and responsibilities are performed per agreed upon expectation
  • Monitor and oversee onsite activities, quality, productivity, progress, and safety of employees and subcontractors
  • Anticipate potential roadblocks and develop solutions to prevent issue from arising; resolve any problems that may arise during project execution
  • Implement and monitor safety programs
  • Manage requests for information and issue field instructions
  • Prepare progress reports
  • Perform other duties as needed
  • Manage the project dry utility work including identification of conflicts, planning and execution in a manner consistent with the overall project schedule and budget goals
  • Manage interface with third party utility stakeholders
  • Collaborate with design and client counterparts to arrive at the most efficient plan to deliver utility relocation work
  • Review proposed design and provide comments, feedback and value engineering ideas to design and utility owners teams
  • Collaborate and coordinate with other disciplines within the project team to communicate utilities updates, review of conflicts and sequencing
  • Track and report on progress of design, permitting and procurement requirements for various third party utilities 
  • Provide support and coordination to the project controls team for scheduling and costing activity related to utility work within the assigned section or segment of the Project
  • Provide clearly defined responsibilities for direct report employees within the assigned section or segment covering all activities of the utility department
  • Timely communication and effective management of issues related to utility work

What we are looking for

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Mechanical engineering
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working with a major contractor on large heavy civil projects
  • Experience with civil/earth works and wet utilities
  • Experience successfully planning and executing projects on schedule and within budget
  • Ability to apply, interpret and understand contract law and language 
  • Experience working with programs including Excel, MS Projects, Word, Power Point and Bluebeam
  • Excellent technical, communication, organizational, managerial and planning skills
  • Excellent people and leadership skills
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills and the ability to work on multiple priorities simultaneously
  • Ability to effectively prioritize, manage and communicate issues in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to maintain good working relationships with the client, utility owners and contractors
  • Demonstrated ability in effectively managing challenges associated with third party utilities design, permitting, procurement, construction and commissioning
